MEDIA RELEASE: Village of Bolton Heritage Conservation District now approved

Caledon’s first heritage conservation district, the Village of Bolton Heritage Conservation District (Bolton HCD), is now designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. This allows for new construction or alterations on properties in the District provided the neighbourhood’s cultural heritage is conserved. On March 5, 2018, the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) approved the Bolton HCD through its amendment of By-law 2016-006 by replacing the HCD Plan’s building inventory (Appendix 5 of the Plan) with a revised inventory.

“The Bolton HCD has been established to recognize, protect and enhance the heritage character of the historic village of Bolton, says Peggy Tollet, General Manager of Community Services. “The District includes over 180 properties encompassing the commercial core, the main crossroads of King Street and Queen Street, and portions of the adjacent residential neighbourhoods. The Bolton HCD Plan allows the Town to manage and guide future change in the area.”

Residential and institutional properties within the Bolton HCD are eligible for the Town’s Designated Heritage Property Grant Program, which offers annual matching grants to a maximum of $4,000 for small and mid-size restoration and maintenance projects, subject to available funding. The program guidelines and application forms are available at Caledon.ca/heritagegrants.

Commercial properties within the Bolton HCD may be eligible for a variety of grants under the Bolton Community Improvement Plan, available at Caledon.ca/cip.
