MEDIA RELEASE: Town of Caledon Victoria Day Closures and Fireworks Safety

The Town of Caledon will be closed Monday, May 18, 2020 for Victoria Day and will resume business on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. A reminder that due to COVID-19 all Town of Caledon offices, facilities and recreation centres are closed until further notice – this also includes parks and playgrounds.

To comply with physical distancing and gathering restrictions, there will be no public fireworks displays for Victoria Day.

Fireworks will be permitted on personal property only, but residents are reminded to keep within the limitations imposed by the Provincial Order on gatherings of not more than five people, who are not part of the same household, and to maintain physical distancing.

Retailers can only sell fireworks during the ten (10) days prior to Victoria Day, starting May 8. All retailers MUST purchase a permit. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fire Headquarters remains closed. Download and complete the Vendor Permit. The permit costs $183.00. Fire Prevention staff will be conducting fire safety inspections to verify compliance with the by-law and any other federal and provincial regulations.

The Town strictly prohibits setting off fireworks on public property, parkland, parks, roads or sidewalks and all designated outdoor spaces imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day (May 18, 2020) and only then on private property. Discharging fireworks on any other day is in contravention of the by-law and is subject to a fine.
